History
The development of medical service in these regions has a big tradition. It goes back to ancient times, when the first Serbian hospital was built in the Monastery of Studenica in the 12th century, which carried the name “Sveti duh” (Holy Spirit). Simeon Nemanjić divided it into a department for mental and a department for physical patients. The first water supply and sewerage in the Monastery Studenica were built 1196, what is testified by the high hygiene level of that period. The second hospital came up in 1217 in the Monastery Žiča. After the “Second Serbian Uprising” in 1817, the first national outpatient clinic of the Kneževićs has been established in Karanovac (Kraljevo). |

The first director of the hospital was “Jovan the doctor” with a salary of 37 talirs. The first pharmacy became its work permit in 1881, when the development of pharmaceutical duty started. The first dispenser was Dušan Todorović. |
